Peridynamics: Past, Present and Future

Dr. Erkan Oterkus, University of Strathclyde, Glasgow UK

Peridynamics is a new continuum mechanics formulation which was introduced to overcome the limitations of classical formulations. Although it was originally developed for predicting fracture in structures and materials, its capabilities have been extended to deal with various complex problems in many different scientific and technological fields. Hence, peridynamics now becomes an emerging multiscale and multiphysics analysis tool attracting researchers from all over the World. In this lecture, a brief information about peridynamics will be provided by covering past developments, presenting current progress and highlighting potential future research directions.
